Additional Autumn (Windham Hill 20th Anniversary Edition) Information
|
The precursor to 1982's commercial breakthrough, December, George Winston's 1980 Windham Hill debut boasts all the lyrical power and poignancy of its follow-up. A simple, clear recording for solo piano, Autumn finds Winston developing simple melodic motifs with studied left-hand underpinning, on hypnotic pieces like "Woods," which moves from a brisk rhythmic figure to rubato minor-key runs. Leaving pauses and breaths in all the right places, Winston suggests the play of color and light, the comfortable melancholy, and the encroaching slow-down that characterizes the fall season. Full of memorable themes, sure pacing, and whiffs of classical grandeur, Autumn is a timeless album that belongs to the firmament of the new age canon. --James Rotondi

What Customers Say About Autumn (Windham Hill 20th Anniversary Edition):

Autumn, as well as any other George Winston CD is perfect for de-stressing. George Winston is great to listen to when winding down on the drive home from work.
It surprised me how much I enjoyed it. One of my favorite albums from George Winston.
Definitely had to listen to it twice before absolutely loving it, but it is an ear-quenching favorite. Each song begins with a repetition of simple notes, so hang in there - as these notes weave themselves into beautiful complex melodies, before revisiting the original notes once again. I was given Winston's 'Winter' as a gift long ago, and years later, still love it. Just received 'Autumn' and it is an incredible companion on my drive to and from work each day.
I have yet to listen to it myself, but I love Winston's other albums. I bought this for a gift and my parents have loved it. They said they listen to it over and over.
not as good as december still a great cd. great album. My favorite is Longing/Love.
